Primary School

At the junior primary level, students learn English in our program through reading English story books. Each story book will form a teaching unit and will span 3-5 lessons.

P1-3

The P1-3 curriculum consists of the following:

  • Core Vocabulary

Each unit teaches 12 vocabulary words from the book. These are taught through games and activities.

  • Vocabulary Revision

In each lesson, the tutor will use games and activities to revise the vocabulary with students.

  • Supplementary Vocabulary

In order to help students to read story books fluently, 10 supplementary vocabulary will be introduced in the lesson.

  • Story Book Reading

After learning the core and supplementary vocabulary, students start reading the story books with the tutors interactively.

  • Post-Reading Activities

After reading each book, students will consolidate what they have learnt through post-reading activities such as book reports, discussion about the story, changing the story ending, role-play, creative writing (e.g. posters, letters, short stories) etc. These activities are also intended to increase the students’ interest in the books that they have finished reading and motivate them to look forward to reading their next book.

P4-6

The upper primary curriculum encourages students to use all the English vocabulary and grammar they have learned to read English story books independently. Tutors will encourage and help students to read on their own in different ways.

  • Story Book Reading

After learning the core and supplementary vocabulary, the child will be led by the tutor to read the English storybook of the unit in an interactive manner.

  • Creative Writing

The creative writing session encourages students to use the English vocabulary they have learned to complete different types of English creative writing which include English posters, letters, essays and more.

  • Activity-based Learning

Students are divided into groups of three to four to complete different small tasks which require students to use the vocabulary and grammar skills learned in that teaching unit.
