Our Origin

About ten years ago, I met around 10 children from grassroot families. They were studying in primary schools, and were very studious and smart. They got good results in school for their Chinese and Mathematics subjects, but only got 10-20 marks for English. After getting to know them and their families, I realised that it was because they were not able to get the help they needed to understand what was being taught in school and they did not have any English-speaking family members to help them at home with their school work. They also did not have any resources to pay for English tuition. I felt really sad about that and asked myself, “Will God give up on these children?”

My husband and I felt strongly that God loves them and would want us to treat these children as our own children and help them as our own. The thought of “Your children are our children” came to us and later became the motto of our ministry.

Initially I started thinking about starting a tuition centre in Tai Kok Tsui, Shamshuipo and Mongkok areas to help children from underprivileged families by offering free English tuition to them. But after we got to know these families, we realised that English learning difficulties were just the tip of the iceberg. These families had loads of other problems to tackle each day. Hence we were moved to start the S.O.A.R. ministry in CCC Mongkok Church in January 2014 with one English class. These children would also attend sunday school in our church as we wanted to offer these children a holistic education that stretched beyond academic excellence. As parents play a very important role in their children’s education, we also started a parent support group to walk with them and support them. The S.O.A.R. ministry commenced.

In December 2020, the S.O.A.R. ministry developed into a non-profit organisation which is also registered as a charitable organisation. We are dedicated to serve the underprivileged community and walk hand in hand with them in the years to come.

We believe that God is the source of love and hope, and it is our wish that all the families that we serve will feel God’s unending love and hope.
